| WHAT TYPE OF CANDLE ARE YOU? |
| Have you ever stopped and thought about what type of candle you are to others? How do others see your light? I love to burn candles. I love the aroma they emit and I love the light they generate. I burn candles in the day when the light and flame go unnoticed, and I burn them when all the lights are turned off and they are all that is seen in the darknss. The aroma of some candles is very calming, while others are strong for the senses and are distracting. We use candles in many different ways. Some candles are used as decoration and never lit at all, while others are burned constantly to produce an awareness. Candles are used on birthday cakes and at weddings. They are used in ceremonies of remembrance and celebration. It is not the candle alone that makes it special, but the light from the fire that is produced that is so moving. Light from a single candle can light up a dark room, and hundreds of candles that are lit can light up the night's darkness. The object that holds the candle is just as important. It may be a tall candlestick on a table while having an elegant romantic meal. It could be a group of people who hold wrapped candles in their hands and lift them toward the sky. A single candle may be lit in small vessel that remains silent and untouched untill it burns completely out on its own. With all these things in mind how would you compare yourself to a candle? Are you the single bright candle that lights a room full of darknss and is that constant guide for those who could not see without you? Are you the candle that is lit and gives off an aroma that is calming to souls and whose light goes unoticed? You could be the one candle in a crowd of hundreds that are lifted high in remembrance of something of someone or in celebration of an event. You could be one of two candles that come together to light a single candle to signify the unity of marriage. Does your flame burn bright to light the night, or put forth a glow that covers an area without being seen. Each of us holds some type of candle in our hands that represents who we are. What type of candle are you to others around you, and what type of reflection do you transmit for others to see? Luke 8:16 NIV "No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar under a bed. Instead he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light." Psalm 119:105 NIV "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." copyright 2007 melanie gilliam yates |
